My name is James Devan and I am the founder of Fiscally Powered. I am blessed to have a supportive family and a career that has allowed me to start this endeavor of giving back to others. I started Fiscally Powered because I see a tremendous need for financial education that is affordable, easily accessible, and simple to learn and use. I don’t tell clients what to do, but rather WHY certain decisions may or not be best in given situations. This helps individuals become self sufficient instead of relying on me to make financial decisions for them.

Professionally I hold a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Business Management and Information Technology. I received certifications in Executive Leadership from the National Society of Leadership and Success and Leadership Strategy from Harvard Business School. I also earned my Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma for quality improvement. I have had the great fortune of working in non-profit healthcare for over a decade, and I have seen firsthand how much of an impact financial insecurity can have on people’s health and overall quality of life. Collectively this gives me a sharp eye for developing strategies both for financial education and for individual development plans for clients looking to improve their financial situation.

After gathering 20+ years of experience and knowledge, I saw an opportunity to share my insights with others. I started working with people on financial coaching in 2022 and quickly fell in love with the idea. What I soon discovered is that there are so many people that feel like the idea of controlling their finances is a foreign concept that seems out of reach. Many have tried reading self-help books or joining financial programs that promise if you follow their program to the letter you will be financially independent. Afterwards they realize that life is full of grey and these black and white frameworks just don’t cover everything. As it turns out, a lot of people want to understand how their finances work instead of being told what to do and being dependent on experts. This is where I really like to spend my time. I like to help people understand the principles of personal finance so they can apply them to whatever unique situation they may face. I also like to dive into psychology and goal setting. Understanding WHY we spend money is an important step in taking control of your finances. Learning some basics in behavior and habits helps tame unnecessary spending and keeps money in your pockets. Understanding WHAT you want to do with your money is equally important. Setting goals ensures that you are creating a financial plan that meets your needs and lifestyle, not what someone else thinks you should do.
